Born:

Positions Held:

1970—1972, Director, Technology, RCA Corporation, Princeton, New Jersey. Coordinated engineering and development program throughout the corporation with special emphasis on electronic components, solid-state devices and electron tubes. Retired October 31, 1972.

1965—1969, Corporate Research and Engineering Staff, RCA Corporation, Princeton, New Jersey. Liaison between corporate divisions and RCA Laboratories; headed development group on graphic systems for part of the time; also involved in color television, microwaves, education, engineering and research management, and patent consulting.

1959—1964, Vice President, Research, Varian Associates, Palo Alto, California. Overall advisory responsibility for research and development at Varian, and direct charge of the Central Research Laboratory. This laboratory engaged in basic and applied research in solid-state physics, plasma physics, physical electronics, automated instruction, adaptive systems, operations research, and computer applications. 1951—1959, Director, Electronic Research Laboratory, RCA Laboratories, Princeton, New Jersey. This group carried on applied and basic research on semiconductor devices, electron tubes, integrated electronics, gas plasmas, and energy converters. In 1957—1958, also directed RCA program with C Stellarator nuclear fusion project at Princeton University.

1946—1951, Section Head, RCA Laboratories. Similar work to above. Directed corporate-wide development of first color TV picture tube.

1930—1946, Research and Development Engineer, RCA Radiotron Company and RCA Laboratories. Research and development of receiving type electron tubes, specializing in signal-to-noise problems, television applications, and superheterodyne mixers.

1927—1929, Radio Engineer, E. T. Cunningham, Inc. Electron tube applications and testing.

1924—1926, Research Assistant, Bell Telephone Laboratories. Picture transmission research.
