Edward W. Herold (1907-1993) wrote a 190-page autobiography out of which his daughter excerpted his memoirs related to his career in electronics. Herold is especially noteworthy for his leadership of RCA's color television picture tube and early transistor developments in the late 1940s and early 1950s. But he writes fluidly, as befits one who passed an invitation to major in English at the University of Virginia, of his childhood and education in Newark, New Jersey; early career in high-frequency electon tube research and development; later management assignments; his six years at Varian Associates in Palo Alto; and his work as a patent witness in the 1960s and 1970s for RCA.
